Montreal’s Coeur De Pirate came to the Phoenix Concert Theatre on Wednesday night, in support of the new album ‘Roses’. While this album marks a significant departure for band leader Beatrice Martin, in stead of singing in French as she’s done on all previous albums – this one contains a number of English songs, she was playing a bigger room than ever. Opening with a number of new songs, she immediately set the tone for the night. Leaning heavily on the new album, Martin was making her bid for the kind of success in Ontario that she seems to have in Quebec and France. With a fantastic band accompanying her on this tour, and a dramatic backdrop to help set the stage, not to mention an awesome set of music to back her up, she has everything she needs to make that next big step.
