Broken Social Scene opening up for Arcade Fire was an inspired choice. If Canadian bands with a lot of members was a genre of music, tonight’s bill was all full of that genre of music. Just full to the top.

Feist came onstage for Shoreline, and again at the end of the set. She wasn’t at BSS’s Montreal show this summer, but luckily for us, the ACC was within the travel budget for this event.

For weeks I had been worrying that there weren’t enough disco balls in my life, for months I had thought holograms needed a comeback, and it’s been years since I last saw Arcade Fire. One night and I scratched all them itches until it left a mark.

Arcade Fire (??) knows how to use a disco ball, and their show, from a distance, highly resembles what you thought holograms were going to look like when you were a child.

They’re also really good at starting an old-fashioned sing-along, and have a back-catalogue of barn-yellers, able and likely to scare any livestock close-by.
