You can always count on Lafayette 148 to deliver some of the chicest wearable pieces that uniquely embody a New York City woman. Last week, at the start of New York Fashion Week, creative director Emily Smith and some of the city’s elite fashion folks gathered at Studio 525 in Chelsea’s art district to gaze longingly at the fall 2025 collection centred around the house’s masterful textile design atelier.

A celebration of craftsmanship inspired heavily by centuries of female textile artistry, “Woven Stories” explored the fine detail of the brand’s artisanal knitwear with pieces that felt as though they belonged in one of the neighbouring galleries.

Indeed, the details of a fine textile are often hidden, but this season, Smith revealed the beauty behind the atelier’s construction and process. Think custom jacquards, exposed seams, woven suede and leather hand-stitched embellishments, and statement knits – pieces that felt like works of art. A film series offered a look behind the curtain of the design process, complete with the satisfying asmr sounds of working looms.

Stand-out pieces included a fringed herringbone skirt woven from leather and suede, a nubbly patchwork wool and cashmere jacket with hand-embroidered tassels made from upcycled yarns, a leather blazer with woven leather webbed tassels hanging from the shoulders, and sleek pony haired jackets left us in awe.

Accessories, like an oversized handwoven fringed leather L-Tote, reinforced the collection’s theme, while suiting, always a strong point for the brand, was given a feminine edge, swapping buttons for a ruched tie waist while a more slouchy suit layered with a knitted overcoat stayed true to the Lafayette brand ethos.
