FENDI presented their Haute Couture collection for spring summer 2024 today on a runway clad in futuristic stainless steel at the Palais Brongniart. Citing Karl Lagerfeld’s futurism for the Italian house as inspiration, Kim Jones exercised balance and precision in the collection. An all-new ‘Scatola’ silhouette opens and closes the show; a box dress achieved through precision geometric pattern cutting showcasing the duality and minimalism of the collection.
Maximalism meets minimalism with each look displaying the highest level of FENDI craftsmanship: elaborately beaded dresses identifying themselves with each swish, column dresses expertly cut in luxurious crocodile skin, and feather-like fur coats made from meticulous and delicate hand embroidery.
“In the collection there is a humanism at the heart of this future; there’s the body, the silhouette within the silhouette, the person and the handwork of the couture. The collection is about structure and decoration, where the two become indivisible. I wanted an idea of precision and emotion at once.” -Kim Jones, FENDI Artistic Director of Couture and Womenswear.
Delfina Delettrez, Artistic Director of Jewellery, continued her exploration of adornment again this season with diamond earcuffs, earrings and striking fine eyewear, giving a luxe Y2K energy. Silvia Venturini Fendi made her signature mark with a rather delicious array of bags, Baguettes in every size Nano to Large and a showstopping new FENDI Gems Baguette featuring precious materials, 18k white gold and diamond-pave-encrusted buckle, held by the model like a TV presenter identifying significance.
While clothes and intricacies typically take centre stage for couture, it was delightful to see a fully realized, accessorized vision for FENDI for spring-summer season that didn’t overtake the restrained elegance and minimalism seen in the clothes.
