Jaguar’s next chapter officially has a name. After months of speculation about the car formerly known as the Type 00 or Type 00 GT, the British marque has confirmed that its upcoming luxury four-door GT will be called the Jaguar Type 01.

We recently got an early look at the prototype during Jaguar’s Spirit of Jaguar drive experience, where it became clear this was never meant to be a quiet transition into electrification. The Type 01 feels more like Jaguar hitting reset entirely while still holding onto the performance DNA that made the brand matter in the first place.

The name itself carries weight. Jaguar says the “Type” designation connects the car to some of the brand’s most important models, including the C-type, E-type and F-type. The “0” references electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, while the “1” marks the beginning of a completely new generation for the brand.

Built in the UK, the Type 01 is set to define where Jaguar heads next. The new architecture delivers proportions and a stance unlike anything currently in the lineup, and, from what we saw earlier this year, that checks out. Low, long and dramatic without leaning too hard on nostalgia.

Jaguar claims the tri-motor setup produces more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque, placing the Type 01 firmly into super GT territory. Still, the bigger story feels less about numbers and more about identity. Jaguar is clearly trying to build a car with presence again.

The company is also leaning heavily into what it calls “Exuberant Modernism,” the design language set to shape everything moving forward. Even the Type 01 name placement has been treated like a design feature, appearing within the strikethrough motif where the bonnet meets the windscreen alongside sharp linear graphics that will likely become a future Jaguar signature.

Before the full reveal later this year, Jaguar Type 01 prototypes appeared on the streets of Monaco ahead of the Formula E race weekend wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap. If the prototype we experienced earlier this year was any indication, Jaguar is not easing into this new era quietly. The Type 01 feels like a very deliberate statement.
