Formally kicking off World Mastercard Fashion Week in Toronto on Monday evening, Holt Renfrew set the tone for their presentation with a dandy gentlemen who tap danced his way down the runway, delighting the perfectly coiffed crowd followed by a sea of carefully selected fall winter garments by Smythe, Mackage, Line Knitwear, TwentyCluny, Jeremy Laing, Lida Baday, Judith & Charles, and Dennis Merotto.
Setting the tone with Arcade Fire’s “No Cars Go” for Smythes ever-prim striped, houndstooth, and cat eyed outwear selection, and moving on to Grimes’ “Oblivion” for Judith & Charles modern silhouettes, it’s safe to say we were more than impressed by the Canadian musical accompaniment of the evening.
Other highlights included Austra playing while Dennis Merotto’s line up of wearable separates walked effortlessly down the runway, Bishop Morocco complimenting Line Knitwear’s lose layered belt heavy outwear selection, MSTRKFT featuring John Legend rocking the room for Jeremy Laing’s edgy collection (which we’ll see more of next week at the shOws), and a big finish back to Arcade Fire for the finale.
