When it comes to photography, one of our essentials is the Fujifilm X100VI. Real original, I know, but the original X100V was so good that after using it as my primary digital camera for 2 years, I ended up selling my entire Canon kit, lens and all. I would like to reiterate that my primary shooting preference remains film and analogue cameras. But when I need to shoot a lot and deliver fast, the film simulations on the X100VI are the next best thing. Now, Fujifilm has gone and done it again with the release of its new Medium-Format digital camera, the GFX100RF, the first fixed-lens digital camera in the GFX lineup. This medium-format mirrorless camera combines high-resolution imaging with a compact, portable design. Weighing approximately 735 grams (1.62 pounds), the GFX100RF is the lightest model in the GFX family, featuring a precision-machined aluminum body, analog-style controls, and a sleek rangefinder-style design for an immersive and tactile shooting experience.
At its core is a 102-megapixel GFX CMOS II HS sensor measuring 43.8 x 32.9 mm—around 1.7 times larger than a full-frame sensor—paired with the X-Processor 5 engine. This combination provides exceptional image quality, dynamic range, low-light performance, and improved autofocus accuracy. The camera includes a fixed FUJINON 35mm f/4 lens, equivalent to a 28mm focal length in 35mm format. The lens consists of ten elements in eight groups, including two aspherical elements, and is treated with a Nano-GI coating to minimize reflections and maximize clarity. Its integrated leaf shutter supports flash synchronization at any shutter speed, and a built-in four-stop ND filter allows for flexible exposure control even in bright environments.
A distinctive feature of the GFX100RF is its analog-style Aspect Ratio Dial, which allows for quick switching between nine formats, including 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, and more panoramic settings such as 65:24 and 17:6. This feature encourages creative framing and composition directly from the camera. For autofocus, the camera employs AI-assisted subject recognition, tracking people, animals, vehicles, and more with face and eye detection to maintain sharp focus in dynamic scenes. Video capabilities include DCI 4K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit recording with up to 13+ stops of dynamic range through F-Log2.
The Fujifilm GFX100RF is priced at $6,999 CAD ($4,899.95 USD) and is scheduled for release in late April 2025.
