As Fred again.. and Latin Mafia continue their marathon YouTube livestream to finish their collaborative mixtape, another detail behind the sessions has come into focus. The Mexico City studio has been outfitted with a custom-designed McIntosh reference listening system built specifically for the project.
The livestream, which began with the promise of staying live until the mixtape is finished and released, gives fans a real-time look at the creative process as Fred and the trio work through the final stages of the record. The collaboration has been years in the making, with the artists previously sharing that the songs naturally evolved into a single project.
The custom system features two pairs of XRT2.1K floor-standing loudspeakers powered by four MC2.1KW Monoblock Power Amplifiers, alongside a pair of ML1 loudspeakers driven by an MC462 Quad Balanced Power Amplifier.
Jamie Tinsley, Fred again..’s front of house engineer, described finally getting to work with the system as “a particular kind of nerdy joy,” comparing it to being handed the keys to an incredibly powerful sports car after only admiring it from afar. He went on to praise its warmth, detailed high frequencies and even coverage throughout the room.
As the livestream continues from Mexico City, it appears the mixtape is now complete, bringing the marathon recording session to a close just as Fred again.. and Latin Mafia originally promised.
