The Lower East Side has always been a fashion, culture, and music hub for New Yorkers. It’s only fitting that Dr. Martens celebrated the launch of the Spirit of 69 collection at The Delancey on Thursday night. With rooftop views of the Williamsburg Bridge and DJ’s spinning classic ska and reggae, we got a glimpse of the gorgeous pieces in the new collection. Dr. Martens collaborated with brands who were influential in the skinhead movement.
Launching in September, the Spirit of 69 includes a limited edition record box made of oxblood and black leather from Trojan Records, MA-1 flight jackets from Alpha Industries, tartan shirts from Brutus, Edwin jeans, and new footwear from Dr. Martens. Guests were also treated to a glimpse of a short film by Mike Skinner celebrating the multiracial skinhead subculture. The Spirit of 69 campaign was shot by renowned photographer Gavin Watson.
It wouldn’t be a celebration without amazing live music. If you descend to the bowels of The Delancey, you’ll find the classic sweatbox atmosphere where everybody’s dancing and having a great time. The Frightnrs, Jah Point & The Boomshot Riddim Collective, Deadly Dragon Sound, and Electric Punanny all played sets well into the night.
