We’ve been following Deadly Ponies for years now and are continually excited and intriguing by their well made leather goods. Designer Liam Bowden says his latest collection for Summer 2013 (New Zealand) takes inspiration from the surrealist artist Frida Kahlo, Day of the Dead, and Posada imagery, mixed with Versace-esque gang patches to soften even the toughest latino gang girl. The concept for Senorita Bandits really came together when they began collaborating with known tattoo artist Stefan Sinclair who designed the the gold gang patches as well as the silk bandana.
It’s interesting to see the brand evolve from well designed, yet more on the basic side of luxury goods into riskier higher fashion territory while still in keeping with their classic signature silhouettes and detailing.
New this season are the paisley silk georgette scarves, a croc embossed zippered shoulder bag called the Mr Croc Case, a canary yellow buckled backpack aptly called Mr Back Pack, the Mr Patch Charm which features the circular gold gang patch, a piped rectangular bag called the Mr Patch Box, and our personal favourite, an expandable bag also featuring the seasonal patch called Mr Gator Patch.
Deadly Ponies classics like the Mr Mini Fill N Zip and the Mr Chain Mail have been updated in fresh new spring hues like dusty rose, canary yellow, and antique stone, while the Mr Bone Mailman is shown in taupe and black colour blocked with an added handle.
We’re very super excited for this collection and have already begun pre-ordering our favourite pieces from this years range to rock this coming summer. View the lookbook below and get a more detailed look over on their website, but don’t sleep on this one, because every season, without fail, every single piece sells out, and with these fresh new colours (and the added bonus of free shipping!), you’d be crazy not to pre-order right away.
