Chicago’s Soho House is our new favourite home away from home and we took the relaxation to the next level on our last visit to the house, at Cowshed spa and salon, located just on the ground level of the house. Upon entering the cozy oasis we felt our knots begin to unwind with the scent of relaxing lavender hitting us from one of the many candles burning throughout the space. Open just two months now, it’s one of the first branches of the UK-based spas in North America, and like many of the areas in the Chicago house, it’s open to the public and also offers great discounts to house members.
Attentive anticipatory staff greeted us by name offering refreshments, before we were led into the change rooms, equip with showers and lockers with flip flops and fuzzy robes, to fill out the usual pre-massage paperwork. After a few minutes the therapist lead us into one of five dimly lit treatment rooms over to a row of Cowshed products for a discussion on what mood we preferred for the massage, where we selected Knackerd Cow for ultimate relaxation.
Cutely named, all Cowshed products are created with botanicals and essential oils, staying true to their British roots, sourced almost entirely from organic plant extracts grown on their farm in England, while anything they aren’t able to grow is fairly traded from Calcutta.
Throughout the entire sixty minute treatment we were impressed by the therapists level of expertise and natural professionalism putting us totally at ease. Following the service, they encourage you to leave the all natural oils on your skin to thoroughly soak in, but for those who like to shower it off, you can do that before changing back into your clothes.
Feeling totally revitalized, we headed back to our room for a nice long bath and could hardly resist another visit before our flight back home, if only to stock up on all our favourite Cowshed products.
The spa also features six luxe manicure pedicure stations, a blow dry bar, and a mens barbershop-like grooming area which showcases Neville mens products. We highly encourage you to visit on your next trip to Chicago whether you’re a guest at the hotel or not.
