Coachella 2014 Day 1: Shlohmo, Chromeo, Broken Bells, Woodkid, Bryan Ferry, Flume & Outkast

Coachella 2014 Chromeo, Bryan Ferry, Woodkid weekend 2

Day one at weekend two of Coachella was pretty stacked, even with the rain clouds slowly drifting overhead. We started our afternoon off exploring the expanded festival grounds, which were twice as large since we had been there in 2011 (with twice a many bros), then headed over to the JBL Dark Room to check out their set up. After turning our tweets into music we headed over to the Gobi tent to take a slow jam dance break with Shlohmo #WeDidIt.

Then downed a couple of beers and a quick fish taco before dashing over to the outdoor stage to see a few tracks by Broken Bells as well as our fellow Canadians Chromeo holding it down on the main stage. We wanted to make sure we saw at least some of French mastermind Woodkid’s set so we headed back to the Gobi tent to catch some amazing visuals, and a guest performance by ASAP Ferg. With his full band, amazing light show, and super cool graphics spilling out of the tent, we were blown away by how his talents translated on so many levels live we ended up staying for the entire set.

Following Woodkid, the Gobi tent started to fill up and spill over the edges with Flume fans, so we headed next door to the Mojave tent to catch the entire Bryan Ferry set. He played “Slave To Love,” “Avalon,” and Roxy Music’s “Oh Yeah” with a full band, which he politely took the time to introduce at the end of his set. Talk about a dream come true.

We headed back over to the main stage for southern hip hop legends Big Boi and Andre 3000 reunited for the first time in many years to perform together live for the second time since last weekend. Playing hits from their 20 year old discography the rap duo had the entire main stage singing along, reliving all those moments from “ATliens” to “Bombs Over Bagdad”, and tracks with long time collaborator vocalist Sleepy Brown. They even partitioned off to play some of their solo hits including “Hey Ya”, “Kryptonite”, and more.
