CMW DAY FIVE: Real Estate & Woods at Horseshoe Tavern

Psychedelic lovers packed into the Horseshoe Tavern on the final night of CMF when Pitchfork threw a double indie headliner show featuring Brooklyn and New Jearsey band’s Real Estate, Woods, and lesser known opener Easy Boy.

We have a weird high-school crush on New Jersey’s Real Estate, mostly because we’ve been looping their album since last Summer, but also because they remind us of old friends and lovers in garage bands past. That being said, their sound is anything but simple, with layered guitar rifts and heavy bass lines contrasting with soft spoken lyrics sprinkled sparingly between the emotive instrumental verses.

Brooklyn’s Woods were also stellar, with their slightly more intense psychedelic yet modern sound that evokes the 1960/1970’s roots of the genre. Mixing guitar, bass, and drums with funky unconventional echoing microphone hook-ups and some kind of vintage drum-machine, Woods managed to get a huge, somewhat mellow crowd of psych loving hipsters to move, while Real Estate drummer made several attempts to crowd surf!
