CHANEL has a long history with cinema, going back to 1930 with Gabrielle Chanel’s creative collaborations that honoured this artistic medium, and continues to this day through the house’s support of sustaining film throughout the world.
This year, CHANEL has partnered with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to create the CHANEL Women Writers’ Network, an alumnae program and extension of Share Her Journey’s annual TIFF Writers’ Studio. Share Her Journey began in 2017 and is a five year campaign that addresses gender parity in front of and behind the camera through TIFF initiatives.
The CHANEL Women Writers’ Network program is part of a multi-year philanthropic commitment and will offer year-round programming to support the careers of women and non-binary individuals who qualify as finalists after participating in the TIFF Writers’ Studio. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with a diverse network of peers and mentors, receive funding to facilitate their projects, access to script consultants, and more. The Writers’ Network will also provide alumnae with access to workspace at the TIFF Bell Lightbox and will award grants to four individuals to further develop feature-length scripts.
