For the spring/summer 2025 season, Casablanca Creative Director Charaf Tajer was inspired by Los Angeles’s underground street history and culture. The show took place inside the Pavillion Cambon. The runway featured four custom low-rider cars sitting in the middle, with the models walking around them for dramatic effect. This was a nod to the Mexican-American culture of LA, which Tajer sees as a parallel to the lived experience of his Moroccan-French working-class upbringing. Thus, the SS25 Casablanca collection and runway show paid homage to this essential part of culture in the City of Angels.
Los Angeles is many things, a “multitude of personalities,” and so was the collection. The collection, which featured both men’s and women’s looks, opened with a pinstriped zoot suit dress with gold buttons and tailoring inspired by the sportswear looks of legendary 1980s Los Angeles Lakers NBA coach Pat Riley; the collection also leaned heavily into surf and skate culture, the hanging outside drinking 40s culture, and the general easygoing nature of West Coast life.
One model carried a custom skateboard, which also acted as the invite sent to VIP guests leading up to the show. There was neon faux fur, which gave 90s rave energy, and even a paper bag-esque beer bottle holder. The bright and vibrant colours the brand is known for play perfectly alongside the psychedelic patterns on shirts and jackets and literal mushroom necklaces worn by some models, further infusing the underground subculture into the high fashion collection.
The collection sometimes seemed all over the place, with blazers, bikini tops, bomber jackets, mini skirts, and raver head towels, but the overall pattern is visible. It can be further appreciated in the context of stereotypical LA subcultures. Many stand-alone pieces here can and will find their way into many wardrobes.
