Late last year, there was this little French Canadian film called Ballerina which featured our Canadian pop princess Carly Rae Jepsen voicing one of the characters, alongside a couple Carly Rae tracks that were kept under wraps and hard for us to hear. Now, the film is making its way stateside later this year under the new name Leap! and with this news, our beloved CRJ has dropped “Cut To The Feeling,” an E•MO•TION: Side B contender that ended up on the Leap! soundtrack. As Jepsen told Entertainment Weekly

That was definitely from the era of E·MO·TION. That was actually a contender for [E·MO·TION: Side B] and, originally, the first album. It was almost too cinematic and theatrical. I was like, ‘If I had my way with it, this would be great for a musical or movie!’

When Ballerina came along, I met with people as I was doing the voiceover… and they were showing me a couple scenes. There was one in particular where they were like, ‘We’re looking for the right song for this, do you have anything?‘ I was like, ‘Actually, this has been in my back pocket. I’ve been saving it for the B-sides, but if this works for you guys, I’d be stoked to share it.’

Listen to “Cut To The Feeling” above.

The film is also said to feature another Carly Rae Jepsen track called “Runaways” + according to her Instagram she’s working on a new album so stay tuned! In the meantime, you can catch CRJ performing with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra this summer.

ps. even John Mayer loves “Cut To The Feeling”
