If you are a denim head like we are, you will appreciate the Lot.955 Natural Indigo “Ultimate” Jeans, 14.5 oz Selvedge Denim from Burgus Plus. Burgus Plus is the in-house brand from renowned Japanese retailer Hinoya, located in the famous Ameyoko market of Tokyo. Ameyoko is a busy neighborhood that runs beneath the tracks of the Yamanote elevated subway line in central Tokyo. The name “Ameyoko” is a shortened form of “Ameya Yoko-cho,” which literally means “candy store alley.” After WWII, “Ame” also came to suggest “America” because of the hard-to-find American goods (like five-pocket jeans) that were sold there.
Hinoya opened its first store in Ameyoko in 1955, selling imported Levi’s and U.S. military surplus goods. Hinoya’s house brand Burgus Plus draws on their 50+ years of experience working with jeans and chinos. Hickoree’s is the only place in the world where you can find Burgus Plus, outside of Hinoya’s own stores in Ameyoko-cho.
The jeans are a slim-straight fit, and are made from warp yarns dyed with natural plant-derived pure indigo from India along with “kakishibu”, a traditional Japanese dye made using fermented juice from unripe persimmons. The jeans are detailed with copper rivets, deerskin leather patch, deerskin leather reinforcements on back pockets and were washed once to eliminate shrinkage.
