There’s a certain logic to the way Emily Adams Bode Aujla chooses a place. Not the rush of a flagship address or the gleam of retail excess, but something quieter… embedded, lived-in, and familiar. That philosophy carries across the Pacific with the opening of BODE Tokyo, the brand’s first location in Asia, set to open this Friday.

Set on the ground floor of a residential apartment building in Yoyogi-Uehara, the store reflects BODE’s long-held belief in neighbourhood retail. Shops that exist alongside daily life, rather than above it. It’s a continuation of the brand’s understated approach to luxury, one rooted in memory, craft, and proximity rather than scale.

Designed by Green River Project LLC the space draws inspiration from the work of Antonin Raymond, whose buildings shaped much of modern Tokyo by blending Japanese construction principles with Western architectural traditions. The duality of American history meeting Japanese tradition runs throughout the store. Furnishings and decorative elements reference the Kennedy Restoration of the early 1960s, including the aesthetic sensibilities championed by Jacqueline Kennedy.

BODE Tokyo will carry the full menswear and womenswear collections alongside the brand’s signature one-of-a-kind garments made from vintage and antique textiles. Exclusive to the location are bras and pillows crafted from midcentury National Parks souvenir pillowcases, appliquéd T-shirts, and keepsake pieces designed specifically for the Tokyo store, objects that feel closer to heirlooms than merchandise.

More than an expansion, the opening acknowledges BODE’s longstanding relationship with its Japanese audience, translating the brand’s distinctly American sense of history and intimacy into a new cultural setting. BODE Tokyo is set to open to the public on February 20th from 11 AM to 7 PM.
