Taking place from April 23 to November 27, the 59th International Art Exhibition will be curated by Cecilia Alemnai, marking the first time an Italian woman has held the position. Events and showings will be housed in the Giardini, at the Arsenale, and at various sites around Venice, Italy.

Three main themes are in focus: the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses; the relationship between individuals and technologies; and the connection between bodies and the Earth.

As part of the National Participants event, each country will showcase their own exhibition. 31 Collateral Events are scheduled, including “Apollo, Apollo, “Impossible Dreams,” and “Persistence” from Louise Nevelson.

The Venice Biennale was established in 1895, with music, cinema, and theatre (the Venice Film Festival) added to the programming in the 1930s. 1980 marked the first International Architecture Exhibition, and in 1999, dance programming began at La Biennale.
