Bentley is testing the outer limits of its luxury SUV playbook with the unveiling of the Bentayga X Concept, revealed at the FAT Ice Race in Austria. Introduced as an experimental study rather than a production promise, the concept reimagines the Bentayga as a more aggressive, terrain-focused machine designed to perform far beyond the paved roads and valet lines.
Developed from the Bentayga Speed platform, the X Concept retains Bentley’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 while undergoing a series of substantial chassis and suspension upgrades. The track has been widened by 120 mm, ride height increased by 55 mm, and overall clearance boosted to enable a wading depth exceeding 550 mm. Extended wheel arches make room for 22-inch one-piece forged wheels by Brixton, wrapped in high-profile all-terrain tires that signal a clear shift from grand touring to expedition readiness.
Visually and mechanically, the concept adopts a far more purposeful stance. A roof-mounted storage system and quartet of high-intensity spotlights reinforce its off-road intent, while front-mounted twin towing eyes and a titanium Akrapovic sports exhaust point to genuine functional upgrades rather than cosmetic posturing. For its debut, Bentley leaned into the spectacle, using the roof rack to transport an electric go-kart from the FAT Karting League, an unmistakable nod to the brand’s new multi-year partnership with FAT International.
Inside, the Bentayga X remains unmistakably Bentley, balancing craftsmanship and comfort against its more rugged exterior. Yet the overall package hints at a future where Bentley’s Mulliner division could explore bespoke builds with deeper off-road credentials without compromising the marque’s luxury DNA.
Following its European debut, the Bentayga X Concept will make its next appearance at the FAT Ice Race in Big Sky, Montana later this month, continuing its tour as Bentley gauges appetite for a more adventurous chapter in the Bentayga story.
