The holiday’s are a great time to experiment with red lips. There are so many shades and variations to choose from, you really can’t go wrong. One of my favourite holiday looks is a cherry-red lip with a bit of a sparkle. It’s not for everyone obviously and there are those that don’t like the sticky-ness of a gloss, but when it’s done right, this look is definitely a show stopper!
There are four steps main steps to follow to achieve the perfect red pout:
1. Exfoliate! Have you ever seen lipstick on dry lips? That flaky, bumpy coloured skin is just not pretty. If you don’t already use a lip scrub, just use a touch of white sugar and a dab of water. Rub in circles, trying your best not to use too much pressure. Once you have exfoliated, apply the chapstick of your choice.
2. Line your lips with a red or burgundy liner of your choice. My personal choice would be Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ Colour Pencil in True Red. When lining the lips use small strokes so that you have control over the liner; this will result in a smooth and natural line.
3. Almost there! Taking the red or burgundy lipstick of your choice, apply using a flat-head lip brush all over the lips. My personal choice would be Lime Crime’s Unicorn Lipstick in Retrofuturist.
4. Now for my favourite part, apply the sparkly lip gloss, evenly to both the top and bottom lips. I would definitely use Lime Crime’s Carousel Gloss in Candy Apple, but if you have another glitter gloss that you prefer, by all means slather it on. Should you not be down for the sparkle look, apply a long-lasting clear gloss like MAC Cosmetics Clear Lip Glass.
Pair this look with a sultry black liner, full lashes, and a LBD, and you my friend are ready for that mistletoe!
