Hotel Hans is the newest addition to Copenhagen-based Brøchner Hotels, transforming the former Avenue Hotel into a 91-room boutique property that sits at the crossroads of two of the city’s most distinctive neighbourhoods: creative, energetic Nørrebro and elegant, leafy Frederiksberg. The hotel’s entire design concept is built around this meeting of contrasts, blending raw industrial materials, terrazzo, concrete and steel with rich green marble, warm wood finishes and soft, sophisticated details. The result feels unmistakably Scandinavian, but with a theatrical edge that sets it apart from many of Copenhagen’s more restrained design hotels.
What stood out most during our stay, besides the friendly staff, was the design of the lobby and restaurant area, a striking deep green marble walls are punctuated with unexpected pops of reflective chrome and inviting yellow couches. Despite its clean lines, symmetry and industrial influences, the space still felt remarkably warm and inviting, the signature Hygge is not a miss here. Developed in collaboration with Danish design duo Pettersen & Hein, whimsical sculptures and artistic tributes to the hotel’s namesake, Brøchner Hotels founder Hans Brøchner-Mortensen, add personality and a playful sense of discovery to the common spaces.
Rooms continue the hotel’s balance of edge and comfort. We booked the Deluxe Double Room with a balcony, one of the property’s larger room categories, where sage-green embroidered quilts, deep-toned walls and carefully considered furnishings create a calm, elevated atmosphere. We also had the opportunity to tour the hotel’s impressive two-level suite with a rooftop terrace, a light-filled space offering sweeping views across Copenhagen.
Mornings begin with Brøchner Hotels’ signature organic breakfast, and it quickly became one of our favourite parts of the stay. The spread includes pastries and fresh bread alongside small Weck jars filled with hot offerings like scrambled eggs, sausages, chia pudding, fruit, and overnight oats. Guests can also take advantage of Brøchner’s complimentary daily wine hour, a beloved brand signature that extends across the group’s hotels throughout the city.

The hotel’s restaurant, BOLO, brings a Mediterranean-inspired approach to dining with ingredient-driven sharing plates designed around the same theme of contrast that runs throughout the property. Meanwhile, the lively lobby bar transitions from a daytime coffee spot to an evening cocktail destination, creating spaces that appeal as much to locals as they do to visitors.
With its design-focused interiors, strong sense of place and thoughtful guest experiences, Hotel Hans caters to travellers who appreciate architecture, hospitality and local culture in equal measure. More than just another boutique hotel, it offers a distinctly Copenhagen experience that reflects the character of the neighbourhoods surrounding it while remaining entirely its own.
