Beginning May 7 until June 4, Shantell Martin’s site-specific installation and exhibition, THE FUTURE, will be on display at Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles. Based on a 27-point manifesto regarding the future of the art industry, Martin’s aim is “a hope, a wish, and an encouragement for everyone to look deeper into how we support artists, how we protect artists, how we empower artists, and how we value art and the artists who dedicate their lives to their craft.”
The exhibition features drawings on paper, canvas, bottles and textile, and utilizes the entire space in Subliminal Projects, creating a site-specific installation. The meditative manifesto is experienced through vinyl flooring, and ceiling-high murals on the wall. Martin hopes that the show allows viewers to “question, explore and delight in this shared human experience:”
Shantell Martin is a visual artist, among other roles, and has collaborated with institutions including The Whitney Museum Shop, NYC, Kendrick Lamar, and brands including The North Face and Google Creative Labs.
