Toronto-based indie group Alvvays are set to make their return to the scene on September 8 with the release of their sophomore album Antisocialites via Royal Mountain Records and Polyvinyl. Having remained relatively quiet since their acclaimed, self-titled debut dropped in 2014, the quartet shared Antisocialites‘ first single “In Undertow” last month.

Today, they’re back with another taste of the new record. “Dreams Tonite” is a romantic, heart-swelling number that drifts across the span of three minutes and brings Molly Rankin’s dreamy vocals to the forefront. The album’s name derives from the song’s lyrics, “In fluorescent light, antisocialites watch a wilting flower.”

Rankin wrote the new album on Toronto Island, working in an abandoned classroom every day, sleeping just a few feet away from the shore each night and avoiding a massive heatwave in the city. “I carried a small PA on the ferry in a wheelbarrow,” she says. “Every morning I would listen to my favourite records on the beach, then I’d write melodies and record demos in the classroom.”

Alvvays will embark on a world tour in support of Antisocialites, kicking things off next month in Chicago at Lollapalooza before heading overseas to the UK and Europe. They’ll wrap up at home in Toronto with a four-night stint at The Mod Club, two of which are already sold out.
