adidas has unveiled the Futurecraft 4D – the world’s first high performance sneaker. Featuring midsoles crafted with light and oxygen using a special technology called Digital Light Synthesis, created by the Silicon Valley-based tech company CARBON, the Futurecraft 4D is the future of running.
The highly innovative midsole is the result of 17 years of running data, brought to life through a digital footwear component creation process.
Eric Liedtke, adidas Group Executive Board Member Responsible for Global Brands, had the following to say in the press release:
“With Digital Light Synthesis, we venture beyond limitations of the past, unlocking a new era in design and manufacturing. One driven by athlete data and agile manufacturing processes. By charting a new course for our industry, we can unleash our creativity- transforming not just what we make, but how we make it.”
The cool thing about Digital Light Synthesis is that it allows Three Stripes to accurately address the needs of each individual athlete, from movement and cushioning to stability and comfort with a single component. A programable resin platform makes performance possible through elastomeric responsiveness and natural durability.
adidas is set to release three hundred pairs for friends and family starting April 2017 and will follow with over 5000 pairs for the Fall/Winter season. This is only the beginning for this groundbreaking silhouette and adidas has promised future scaling for forthcoming seasons!
