It’s safe to say that (for better or for worse, depending who you talk to) skate culture is having a moment among the fashion crowd right now. From the clothing styles to the 90’s lo-fi vibes of the photography and lookbooks, a lot of the current trends in fashion borrow from the world of skateboarding. For some, this is far from a passing fad, however. Take photographer Ari Marcopoulos for example, who has been at the forefront of that aesthetic styling for over 40 years. His influence as a photographer and filmmaker includes over 200 books and zines full of intimate portraits taken during pivotal moments in subcultural history.
adidas Skateboarding has tapped the living legend for a limited edition footwear and apparel collaboration capsule. At the centre of the capsule is a zine—a medium that Marcopoulos had a hand in making famous—comprised of 26 pages of winter skateboard fun in New York’s Lower East Side. The apparel and footwear pieces borrow the mixed media and vibrant colour pops of the zine and include the zine’s name “AIGHT” in various places.
The limited edition adidas x Ari Marcopoulos collection will be available on the adidas Skateboarding website as well as select stores and stockists starting March 3.
