A-POC ABLE Issey Miyake have unveiled a new collaborative initiative titled TYPE-XV SOAR NY, bringing together the brand’s experimental garment engineering with the graphic design language of New York–based studio SOAR NY, led by creative director Masaki Hanahara.

The project continues A-POC ABLE’s exploration of “ABLE,” a concept centred around expanding possibilities through cross-disciplinary collaborations. By merging Issey Miyake’s innovative clothing technologies with SOAR NY’s energetic visual identity, TYPE-XV investigates how graphic design can evolve when translated into wearable form.

The first release introduces two main series. TYPE-XV 001 focuses on dresses and pants created using A-POC ABLE’s proprietary Baked Stretch pleating technique. In this process, garment patterns are printed directly onto fabric before pleats are formed, allowing graphics and structure to develop simultaneously. When the fabric is exposed to high heat, a special adhesive causes the material to expand, transforming flat prints into sculptural, three-dimensional pleats.

SOAR NY’s vivid color palettes and playful typography become part of the garment’s structure, producing dynamic motifs that shift as the wearer moves. The result is a collection where motion activates the design, revealing new shapes and visual rhythms in real time.
The project also introduces TYPE-XV 002 and TYPE-XV 003, two T-shirt series printed on A-POC’s signature seamless knit. These pieces translate SOAR NY’s bold graphic language into everyday silhouettes, featuring contemporary patterns built from overlapping lines and color fields that reflect the studio’s interest in momentum and movement.

Founded in New York, SOAR NY approaches graphic design through the question “What is beauty?”—creating work that bridges visual culture, architecture, and urban environments. Their recent projects include a large-scale public art installation commissioned by New York City in Brooklyn’s DUMBO district in 2025, marking the first time a Japanese designer received the commission.

The TYPE-XV collection is now rolling out at select A-POC ABLE Issey Miyake stores in Japan, with international availability at Issey Miyake boutiques in Paris, Milan, and London beginning April 10. Prices range from $580 USD for the graphic T-shirts to $1,875 USD for dresses and $2,160 USD for pants.

For more insight into the collaboration, A-POC ABLE Issey Miyake also released DIALOGUES Episode 15, which explores the creative process behind the project.
