We kicked off the second night of CMJ’s Music Marathon at André Saraiva’s Le Baron in Chinatown to catch the opening act of Ghostly International and Cascine’s showcase, Rush Midnight, formally of Twin Shadow. With the stage in the room, the space was tiny and the mood was a bit tense, with people packed in up the stairs and on the balcony, by the time Russ Manning took the stage with his drummer.
We’ve really been digging his EP, +1, over the last month, and it was nice to see him play it live. His set was pretty short, about seven tracks long, including the entire EP and couple unfamiliar to us, and we found ourselves humming “The Night Was Young Enough” and his track featuring Doe Paoro “What We Had” the rest of the night.
Manning certainly has his cool dude cred down pat from is Brooklyn roots (and an amazing studded vest he was wearing), and working with Twin Shadow certianly doesn’t hurt either.
Take a look at some of our photos below from last nights set.
