With Gucci still working to restore its fashion authority under Demna’s artistic direction, the House is turning to one of pop culture’s most instantly recognizable figures for the holiday season. Mariah Carey is a fitting choice for a campaign built around Christmas, but the casting also feels a bit like a calculated play for cultural relevance at a time when Gucci is still searching for its next defining identity.
Directed by Harmony Korine, the campaign unfolds inside a hotel transformed in anticipation of Carey’s arrival. Set to the unmistakable opening of “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” the film leans into the spectacle, nostalgia and glitz of the holiday season, with Carey taking centre stage in Gucci’s new Butterfly special collection. Inspired by the iridescence of the butterfly, the collection draws on the singer’s signature motif from the iconic 1997 album.

The campaign arrives as Gucci continues to navigate a difficult turnaround. Parent company Kering reported a 6 per cent comparable revenue decline for the House in the third quarter of 2026, underscoring the challenge of rebuilding demand. While Carey’s association with Christmas guarantees immediate recognition, the question is whether celebrity-driven visibility will translate into renewed desire for the brand.
Alongside the film, a series of still images shocases Gucci’s holiday gift selection, spanning handbags, footwear and accessories. Shimmering editions of the Starlet, Gucci Duffle and GG Marmont bags sit alongside the soft suede Paparazzo, while GG Monogram boots, Horsebit loafers, Ace sneakers and Vittoria pumps round out the offering. Hats and scarves complete the seasonal edit.
Mariah Carey and Christmas are practically inseparable, making this an undeniable seasonal pairing. Whether the campaign signals a renewed sense of Gucci identity, however, remains to be seen.
