Jay-Z and Pharrell Williams have been connected professionally for decades. From Pharrell and The Neptunes producing some of Hov’s biggest records to their continued influence across music and fashion, the creative chemistry between the two has always been there. So when Jay-Z arrived in Paris to celebrate 30 years of Reasonable Doubt, it was only fitting that Pharrell, now Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton, was there to support and dress him for the occasion.

Jay-Z celebrated the milestone with a performance at Stade de France on September 10, taking the stage in a custom Louis Vuitton look created alongside Pharrell Williams.

The one-of-one piece was built around a black-and-white football jersey featuring Louis Vuitton iconography and a flocked “30” on the back, marking three decades since Jay-Z’s debut album and his career as a recording artist. The jersey also featured an interior label reading “Celebrating 30 Years of Jaÿ-Z.”

The football-inspired design played into the performance’s setting while continuing Louis Vuitton’s exploration of sportswear in its men’s collections. It also added another chapter to the longtime creative relationship between Pharrell and Jay-Z, one that has crossed music, culture, and style for three decades.

Pharrell joined Jay-Z on stage wearing Louis Vuitton as well, debuting a new red colourway of the LV Records jacket, paired with Skate Fit Denim jeans and a one-of-a-kind Combi sneaker featuring a Damier pattern.

Three decades in, the Pharrell and Jay-Z collaboration is still finding new ways to make sense. Some partnerships age; others just keep getting better.
