The rumours were true. Apple’s folding phone has officially entered the chat.
The new iPhone Duo marks the company’s first folding iPhone, combining a pocketable 5.4-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch inner screen when open. It’s Apple’s largest iPhone display to date, designed to move seamlessly between a compact phone and a larger canvas for content, gaming and multitasking.
Built from grade 5 titanium with a precision-engineered hinge, with a nano-textured inner display to help reduce glare and soften the visibility of the crease, which is always a typical wear point for folding phone. A Ceramic Shield protection and an IP68 rating are designed to make the device feel less like a tech experiment and more like a long-term mainstay in the growing iPhone line up.
The camera system is equally ambitious with a 48MP Fusion Main camera, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide and new Center Stage front camera. The folding format also introduces features like Duo Preview, which allows subjects to see the camera’s live framing on the outer display, and Smart Take, which uses on-device AI to automatically capture.
Underneath, Apple’s new A20 Pro chip and dual-battery architecture are paired with a custom vapour chamber for sustained performance. Apple claims up to 24 hours of use when the inner and outer displays are used equally, and up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display.
Sure to supercharge your productivity, iOS 27 has also been redesigned around the folding format, introducing side-mounted controls, expanded multitasking and Split View, allowing two apps to run side by side for the first time on iPhone.
The new line up will be available in Star White and Night Sky, iPhone Duo starts at $2,999 CAD for pre-order October 16th, with availability starting October 23rd.
With iPhone Duo, Apple hasn’t simply made a foldable phone. It’s more an attempt at making a somewhat kitschy category feel a bit more iPhone coded.
