Earlier this year at Jaguar’s Spirit of Jaguar Drive in Gaydon, England, we got behind the wheel of the Type 01 prototype. It was still wrapped inside and out, so while we left with a clear understanding of how it drove, the interior remained a mystery.

At Monterey Car Week 2026, Jaguar finally filled in that missing piece.

Making its North American debut in a new exterior wrap, the Type 01 offers the clearest look yet at how the ideas first introduced by the Type 00 concept are making their way into production. Having now seen it in person, the cabin feels every bit as considered as the car itself.

The defining feature is a central spine that runs the length of the four-seat cabin, creating four distinct spaces rather than one shared interior. The driver sits low in the car, while the slim dashboard avoids the oversized screens that have become the norm across much of the luxury segment. Instead, the cabin’s architecture takes centre stage.

Jaguar says the material palette takes inspiration from travertine stone and artisan textiles. A brass-inspired finish flows along the central spine and into the upper door panels, with subtle Jaguar leaper motifs worked into the details. Technology is there when you need it, but never dominates. The infotainment system is integrated into the dashboard, the digital ClearSight rear view display sits low at the base of the windscreen, and hidden storage compartments keep the cabin clean and uncluttered.

Seeing the interior after driving the camouflaged prototype in Gaydon makes Jaguar’s broader direction feel much more complete. The company has spent the past year talking about rediscovering what made a Jaguar feel like a Jaguar. Now, you can see that philosophy extending beyond the way the car drives and into the space where you’ll spend your time behind the wheel.

The Type 01 will make another appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance before the full production car is revealed in New York on October 6. If Monterey is any indication, Jaguar is sticking closely to the vision it first laid out with the Type 00.
