Today at The Quail during Monterey Car Week, we were there as Bugatti unveiled the Destrier to the public for the first time. In a week filled with some of the world’s most incredible cars, the latest creation from Bugatti’s exclusive Programme Solitaire still managed to stand out.
Fresh off its digital reveal earlier this month, seeing the Destrier in person offered a completely different perspective. Built for a single customer, the car takes the extreme technical foundation of the track-focused Bolide and turns it into something far more elegant, with dramatic proportions and a design focused on beauty as much as performance.
Introduced by Bugatti Rimac CEO Mate Rimac and Design Director Frank Heyl, the Destrier is the third one-of-one creation from Programme Solitaire, following Brouillard and F.K.P. Hommage. The program represents Bugatti’s most exclusive level of personalization, allowing the brand to create cars that exist as true singular pieces.
Before making its public debut at The Quail, the Destrier was privately presented to its owner in Pebble Beach, then joined a Bugatti Petit Tour through the Monterey Peninsula and along the California coastline. Its arrival at The Quail was the perfect setting for a car built around exclusivity, craftsmanship and the idea that some automobiles are meant to be experienced, not just seen in photos.
