Chanel just secured one of fashion’s most beloved basics, adding another storied name to its growing roster of heritage maisons, with the acquisition of Charvet, the legendary Parisian shirtmaker.

Widely regarded as one of fashion’s original purveyors of timeless wardrobe essentials, Chravet was founded in 1838, long occupying a rarefied place in luxury, building a reputation on impeccable bespoke shirting, tailoring, and accessories. More than just a shirtmaker, it’s become a benchmark for the kind of elevated classics that never go out of style, earning a loyal following that has included everyone from Charles Baudelaire and Marcel Proust to Winston Churchill and Gabrielle Chanel herself.

Rather than a traditional acquisition, Chanel describes the move as a long-term commitment to preserving Charvet’s exceptional savoir-faire while maintaining the house’s creative independence. The partnership follows Matthieu Blazy’s debut Spring/Summer 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection, where an early creative dialogue with Charvet sparked what would ultimately become a deeper collaboration.

“This association holds a special resonance for Chanel,” said Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Fashion Activities at CHANEL, pointing to the two maisons shared commitment to craftsmanship, longevity, and the preservation of artisanal excellence.

“This project represents the coming together of two historic Parisian companies” – Managing Director, Jean-Claude Colban

As luxury continues to invest in the artisans behind the products, Chanel’s acquisition further cements its commitment to safeguarding the heritage makers that shape fashion’s future and ensuring Charvet’s legacy for generations to come.
