Tod’s is taking a focused approach with their latest project for Milan Design Week, centring on one of its most recognizable pieces, the Gommino loafer.
Long associated with Italian craftsmanship and understated luxury, the Gommino has become a symbol of the brand’s identity. Rather than reworking it for the sake of novelty, Tod’s looks to Italian design history, drawing from four influential figures of the 20th century.
Each interpretation references a distinct design language, from curved, futuristic forms to more experimental, material-driven work, as well as graphic and architectural approaches. The result is a small series of limited-edition Gommino styles that connect footwear with broader design culture.
The project is presented at Tod’s space on Via Savona during Milan Design Week, where the shoes are shown alongside the original works that inspired them. The setup creates a clear link between the source material and the final product.
Trueto Tod’s form, artisans have been places throughout the installation, demonstrating the hand-stitching process that defines the Gommino, a reminder of the level of craftsmanship behind the shoe.
The collection is available now in limited quantities through Tod’s Milan boutique on Via Monte Napoleone and online.
