Apple has officially unveiled AirPods Max 2, updating its over-ear headphones with stronger Active Noise Cancellation, improved sound quality, and a range of intelligent features powered by the H2 chip. The new model keeps the familiar design while expanding its capabilities for everyday listening and creative use.

AirPods Max 2 deliver ANC that is up to 1.5 times more effective than the previous generation, thanks to H2 and new computational audio algorithms, helping reduce environmental noise like airplane engines or commuter trains. Transparency mode has also been refined with a new digital signal processing algorithm optimized for H2 and the headphone’s microphone array, making outside sound feel more natural when users want to stay aware of their surroundings.

Sound quality also sees an upgrade with a new high-dynamic-range amplifier that delivers cleaner audio while maintaining the AirPods Max sound signature. Spatial Audio content benefits from improved instrument localization, more accurate bass response, and more natural mids and highs. When connected with the included USB-C cable, AirPods Max 2 support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio across music, movies, and games. Apple says the headphones can also be used across professional workflows in Logic Pro and other music creation apps, and are the only headphones that allow musicians to create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking when connected by USB-C.

H2 also introduces several intelligent features. Adaptive Audio automatically adjusts ANC and Transparency based on the environment, while Conversation Awareness lowers playback volume and reduces background noise when a user begins speaking to someone nearby. Voice Isolation prioritizes the user’s voice during calls while blocking ambient noise, and Live Translation, powered by Apple Intelligence, helps users communicate across languages in person. Personalized Volume adapts listening levels over time, and Siri Interactions let users respond to Siri announcements with a nod or a gentle shake of the head.

AirPods Max 2 also add tools for creators, including studio quality audio recording for podcasters, singers, and interviewers, along with a camera remote feature that lets users press the Digital Crown to take photos or start and stop video recording in the Camera app or compatible third party camera apps on iPhone or iPad. Reduced wireless audio latency also improves gaming in Game Mode across iOS, macOS, and iPadOS.

AirPods Max 2 will be available to order starting March 25 in Midnight, Starlight, Orange, Purple, and Blue, with availability beginning early next month. Pricing starts at $799 CAD.
