For Fall Winter 2026, Akris creative director Albert Kriemler turned to textile art as the starting point for the collection, collaborating with Colombian artist Olga de Amaral, whose work with woven fibers has reshaped the boundaries between craft, sculpture, and fine art.
The partnership feels natural for Akris, a Swiss house founded in 1922 as a family run apron atelier in St. Gallen, a region long known as one of Europe’s most important textile centers. Even as the brand evolved into a global luxury label, its reputation has remained closely tied to fabric innovation and textile development, a legacy that continues to shape Kriemler’s design process today.
Amaral’s work provided the conceptual framework for the season. Known for transforming materials like wool, linen, and horsehair into large scale woven installations, the artist has spent more than six decades redefining textile as a form of contemporary art. Her pieces, often layered, knotted, or finished with gold leaf, explore texture, structure, and light.
Kriemler translated those ideas into clothing through a strong focus on surface and material. Fringe, layered organza tiles, metallic threads, and woven jacquards echoed the dimensional qualities of Amaral’s work. Gold lamé leather, textured knits, and sculptural shearling pieces added depth, while delicate silk gowns and structured coats balanced weight and movement.
The collection moved fluidly between tailored outerwear and eveningwear. Cocoon coats, leather and eel skin jackets and cashmere knits appeared alongside gowns finished with long fringe and geometric appliqué, creating silhouettes that felt both architectural and tactile.
Colour also played a central role. The palette moved from deep neutrals including black, charcoal, and coffee into saturated tones like merlot, forest green, turquoise, magenta, and gold. The effect mirrored Amaral’s own use of colour as a structural element rather than simple decoration.
Throughout the collection, Kriemler reinforced the idea that textiles are not just the foundation of fashion but its language. By placing fiber art at the center of the runway, Akris Fall Winter 2026 highlighted the craft traditions that have shaped the brand and fashion itself for more than a century.
