Apple is stepping into new territory with the launch of the MacBook Neo, a colourful 13-inch laptop that is also the company’s most affordable MacBook ever. Starting at $799 CAD, it marks Apple’s first real push into the more price-conscious end of the laptop market, a space long dominated by Windows PCs and Chromebooks.

That shift is significant. Apple already holds a tight grip on the premium portable laptop category, and the MacBook Neo opens the door for the company to extend its reach to students, casual users, and first-time Mac buyers who may have previously been priced out of the ecosystem. It still carries the familiar Apple formula, including a durable aluminum design, a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with support for one billion colours, and performance powered by the A18 Pro chip. Battery life stretches up to 16 hours on a single charge, keeping it firmly in all-day territory.

The hardware stays true to the Mac playbook. A Magic Keyboard and large Multi-Touch trackpad handle everyday navigation, while a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones, and side-firing speakers with Spatial Audio round out the experience for calls and media. It runs on macOS Tahoe and integrates closely with the iPhone through Apple’s Continuity features.

Then there’s the fun part. The MacBook Neo arrives in four finishes that add a bit of personality to the lineup. Blush, indigo, silver, and a bright citrus option make it the most colourful MacBook yet, with matching keyboards and wallpapers completing the look. Pre-orders opened March 4, with availability beginning March 11, signalling a new chapter for Apple as it brings the Mac experience to a broader audience.
