Michael Kors threw the kind of party that reminded everyone why New York still owns the grit and glamour. Forty-five years of the Michael Kors Collection and the he still knows how to translate the city into clothes that feel lived-in yet aspirational.
A master class in dramatic understatement the fall winter collection, shown at Metropolitan Opera House, featured tailoring softened by fluid draping, bias cuts that moved, and evening wear that really screamed glamour. Trains were not just for gowns they wrapped, trailed, and made every step a statement. Tweeds and flannels were reimagined with textures layered with an ease that felt very New York. The palette was a delightful mix of neutrals including Kors’ signature camel now rechristened fawn, punctuated with romantic ruby, raspberry, and wine, that kept the mood powerful but never literal.
A cinematic soundtrack by Sebastien Perrin allowed the models to glide through the space with operatic poise. Liisa Winkler, Julia Nobis, Paloma Elsesser, and Karolin Wolter moved like they were born in the city, with Christy Turlington closing the show for a full-circle moment that felt historical somehow.
Front row energy was peak New York with Uma Thurman, Gabrielle Union-Wade, Suki Waterhouse, Mary J. Blige, Rachel Zegler, and Nicole Scherzinger, to name just a handful. After the show, attendees migrated across to Lincoln Center to P.J. Clarke’s, where cheeseburgers, martinis, and an impromptu Rufus Wainwright piano set.
The takeaway? Michael Kors knows that style is strength, and glamour always has an edge and even after 45, he hasn’t lost his touch.
