The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology proves that legends don’t fade, they evolve. The all-electric G-Wagen keeps its iconic boxy stance and tank-door charm but swaps the V8 growl for 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of instant torque from four electric motors, one at each wheel. The 116-kWh battery sits low in a reinforced ladder frame, giving this 7,000-pound brute the ability to silently sprint to 100 kph (60 mph) in just over 4 seconds.  The experience is eerie and addictive: the same G-Class presence, now with spaceship thrust and no emissions.

On the road, the G 580 feels planted and poised. The steering is heavy in the best way, commanding but precise, and the electric weight settles the ride into something smoother and more composed than any gas G has been before. Off-road, it’s next-level. Each motor drives its wheel independently for near-perfect traction, while new tricks like G-Turn let it spin 180 degrees on the spot,  and G-Steering tightens its turning radius on tight trails. It even wades over 30 inches of water, all in near silence. Nothing feels as good as cruising through the city, silently, powerfully.

Range clocks in around 380 kilometres (239 miles) (EPA), though light feet can stretch it closer to 420. Fast charging at up to 200 kW gets you from 10 to 80 percent in about half an hour. The launch-only Edition One arrives fully loaded—two-tone Nappa leather, blacked-out trim, MANUFAKTUR detailing, and a sleek rear Design Box replacing the spare tire. Inside, it’s equal parts command center and lounge, wrapped in old-money luxury with future-proof flair.

This isn’t about efficiency—it’s about evolution. The G 580 “Edition One” takes the world’s most recognizable luxury off-roader and makes it cleaner, quicker, and somehow even cooler. The G-Wagen didn’t go soft; it went silent—and that might be the boldest move yet.
