For Design Miami 2024, Italian luxury brand Fendi teamed up with London-based designer Lewis Kemmenoe to create Ænigma—a collection that’s as much a riddle as a masterpiece. Inspired by the Latin word for “puzzle,” this collection is a mind-bending mix of Kemmenoe’s bold, contemporary sensibility and Fendi’s Roman heritage, with a healthy dose of mystery thrown in for good measure.
Kemmenoe took a deep dive into Rome’s museums, botanical gardens, and even Fendi’s Tuscan factory, soaking up the city’s rich history to craft a collection that plays with opposites. Timber meets metal, and stone meets sleekness—because why settle for one material when you can have both?
The real showstopper? Kemmenoe’s reimagining of the iconic Peekaboo Soft bag. It’s like your favourite bag took a couture class: patchworked leather and timber, with a hidden wooden texture, revealed only when you open it. It’s the fashion equivalent of a secret handshake.
But that’s just the start. Ænigma also includes chairs, lamps, a cabinet, and more—each piece blending timber patchwork, brass, and aluminum (cast from the bark of Rome’s pine trees) into a design puzzle you can sit on, stare at, or admire from every angle. The FF motif? It’s there but reworked in such a fresh, organic way that you’ll do a double-take.
Ænigma isn’t just a collection—it’s an invitation to play, explore, and maybe even solve a mystery. Luxury has never been so intriguing.
