Rumours have been circulating for weeks about who will take over the reins of French luxury Maison Chanel after the departure of Virginie Viard.  Now, the speculation can rest as Matthieu Blazy has been announced as the brand’s new artistic director of fashion activities. Blazy will be responsible for all of Chanel’s Haute Couture, Ready-to-Wear and Accessories collections.

Blazy was born in Paris in 1984 and graduated from the esteemed La Cambre Ecole Nationale in Brussels. He started his career as a Men’s designer for Raf Simons before joining Maison Margiela to lead their Haute Couture and ready-to-wear collections. 2014, he became the Woman Senior Designer at Céline before moving to Calvin Klein in 2016 as Design Director of Read-to-Wear. Since 2021, he has been the Creative Director at Bottega Veneta, leading the brand in its recent popularity and success.

“I am thrilled and honoured to join the wonderful House of CHANEL. I look forward to meeting all the teams and writing this new chapter together.” Matthieu Blazy

Honestly, we are very excited to see what he can do. Hopefully, we will see the return of menswear under his guidance. Fingers crossed.
