Any night of the week (including Tuesday) is fit for a rap concert in Toronto – and we knew it was going to be a good one when the line outside of Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre began to stretch hundreds of feet past the venue.
The hundreds of eager attendees were waiting to experience a headlining performance from Playboi Carti. The rising Atlanta rapper has made a serious name for himself since signing to A$AP Mob and releasing his debut self-titled album – and it was clear from the turnt up (and sold-out) crowd that Toronto was ready to experience the energy.
Early vibes were provided courtesy of Toronto’s own JAYEMKAYEM before an energetic opening set from Long Island rapper Swoosh. Donning an orange reflective construction jacket, the New York native kept the crowd
The crowd erupted with screams the moment Playboi Carti took the stage, and in the moment, it appeared that nothing could wipe the hugely infectious smile off of the young rapper’s face. Carti bounced around the entirety of the stage through a set consisting of his numerous hits, both underground and mainstream. Fans chanted almost every word of tracks like “Magnolia,” “Woke Up Like This,” “Fetti,” “Location” and more. He even took the opportunity to dance along to rising underground hits like Tay-K’s “The Race” and concluded the show with a special guest appearance from Toronto’s own NAV.
