You work hard, you travel a lot, but somehow your fitness routine never seems to stay on track. We get it. You’re busy and sometimes there just isn’t time to sign up for the class you want (at the right time), no matter what city you’re in.
We’ve got the quick fix you need this summer and what’s more you can do all of it from a few clicks on your Apple Watch. Especially exciting news with the launch of watchOS4 coming this fall. Existing Apple Watch users can look forward to a more intelligent coaching experience, a new HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout mode, auto sets for swimming, and quicker transitions from workout to workout.
By downloading a couple apps and committing to one or a couple you like best, you can really transform your fitness goals and in tern, improve your overall health. The best part? You can train in whatever useable time (and space) you have available, whether it’s a quick ten minutes or half hour in your hotel room, you can always find the time.
Personally we love bouncing between a couple different apps to keep things fresh between SoulCycle and Pilates classes when we have the time, but if you’re a runner, these workouts will be a great foundation for flexibility and agility.
We’ve rounded up our top five go-to apps we use to stay on track, especially when we’re on the go.
Seven – 7 Minute Workout
Sometimes the hardest thing is actually getting up and moving. It’s so much easier to just sleep through your alarm than get up for a workout, no matter how quick. We guarantee you’ll be able do these exercises in your sleep (maybe you keep your eyes closed for the first few exercises, we won’t tell ?).
It’s not overloaded with features like most apps these days, and the simplistic appeal makes it easy to swallow on the daily, without learning a whole new workout platform. Think of it like your daily exercise check-list really – it doesn’t sync with other apps to track your diet or progress. It’s just a reminder to keep moving, everyday, for seven short minutes.
Once you become a pro you can purchase additional workouts within the app to keep things fresh if you’re crushing the free content hard.
YogaGlo
No matter who you are, what job you do, how stressful or not, yoga and meditation is a super healthy thing to do regularly. If you’re anything like us, you definitely don’t prioritize yoga, even though you probably should.
YogaGlow is the best studio you can take on the road. You can practice at home or on-the-go when you travel with some of the best teachers in over 3,800 classes in all the styles and levels possible. It syncs great with the Apple Watch to monitor your heart rate every time you practice to contribute to your activity rings – gotta fill them!
Much like a gym you’d go to, you do have a level of financial commitment of $18 per month, but you get a 15-day trail to see if you like it. If you’re in LA you can also visit their studio to take part in one of their free classes which are filmed for the app regularly.
Sweat with Kayla
If you’re looking to kick your home workout into high gear, Kayla Itsines is your girl. Her app and her Bikini Body Confidence program is guaranteed to make you sweat your ass off week after week. Not only is Sweat the biggest online fitness community and millennial go-to, it also syncs with Apple’s HealthKit through calories, heart rate, and steps, plus you can track your progress on your watch.
Kayla Itsines’ program combines high-intensity plyometric training with minimal space and equipment – you can basically do this workout wherever you are in the world and still make an impact. The app also features nutrition and coaching including daily mean plans, for any diet as well as vinyasa-style resistance recovery flows as well as options for post pregnant individuals.
ClassPass
This one might seem a little obvious for those who use this app regularly in their day to day life at home, but did you know ClassPass works in a bunch of different cities all over the world? All you have to do is switch the city in your profile and you’ll have access to tons of workouts close to you, wherever you are in the world. They’ve got everything from yoga, Pilates, barre, running, boxing, strength training, cycling and more, so you don’t have to worry about finding a class you’ll love.
You can also stream on-demand workouts to your device as well if you can’t make it out to the studio.
Trail Run Project app
Running is one of the best ways to see a city and get a workout it at the same time when you travel, but jogging along next to traffic jam is definitely a buzz kill. Why not take it to a trail for an extra challenge next time? With the REI’s trail run project app you can access over 74,000 miles of trails (truth run by local experts) and also track your location on a topographical map, elevation, and access a guidebook while you’re doing it. You can also download the trail before you start your run if you’re in a more remote location and worry about loosing reception.
For those who might not be up for a run but still want to get some adventure, REI also makes a similar app for hiking.
