Chicago DIY quartet Melkbelly have been making tunes together since 2014 and now they’re signed to Wax Nine Records, a little sister label to Carpark Records headed by Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz. Their debut LP, titled Nothing Valley, is due this fall and in anticipation they’ve just dropped a video for the forthcoming album’s first single “Kid Kreative.” Directed and edited by Marty Schousboe, the video features some sassy fun vibez & trippy food. As vocalist/guitarist Miranda Winters explains in a press release…
“Kid Kreative” is about creating a unique aesthetic in art or music only to have it hijacked and manhandled by someone else who reaps the rewards. It was inspired by existing as a woman in the predominantly male space of loud-music where it’s easy to be both looked over and ‘borrowed’ from.
