French actress Audrey Tautou is set to unveil a series of self-portraits taken over 15 years at this year’s Rencontres d’Arles photography festival in France.
Being such a well-known actress, her self-portraits are an interesting way for Tautou to regain power over her own image. The exhibit, entitled Superfacial, was curated by the festival’s director Sam Stourdzé.
Speaking to The Cut, Stourdzé has said of Tautou and the exhibit:
“She interrogates what it means to be a star, to be a star means to be a product of images. It’s not about ‘is it a pretty photo’; it’s about the artistic intention.”
