Nike held a secret pop-up exhibit in Toronto dubbed SNEAKEASY to culminate a month of celebration for Air Max Day 2017 and 30 years of the Air Max 1.
Curated by Director X, the space was created to reflect the past, present and future of Air Max. Nike recruited five creators from Toronto to design five unique spaces, each dedicated to an iconic Air Max silhouette. The exhibit began with the four spaces conceived for past Air Max models and concluded with the launch and unveiling of the new Air VaporMax.
Brian Espiritu – Air Max 1
The Legends League and clothing designer created a rugged, urban space that acted as a play on Ronald Reagan’s “Tear Down This Wall” quote. The key highlights of the exhibit were the OG Air Max 1 chiselled out of drywall and Air Max “wrecking ball.”
Anna Bediones – Air Max 90
Bediones literally flipped her exhibit upside down. It took a second to figure out, but the effect of having Air Max 90’s mounted to the ceiling was clever and efficient.
Avi Gold – Air Max 95
The artist Sneeze Magazine creator opened up his own mom and pop sneaker shop inside SNEAKEASY. Dubbed “Friedman Sports,” the selection of Air Max’s and merchandise paid homage to the sneaker shops of 1995.
Tanisha Scott – Air Max 97
Known for choreographing tour routines for Drake and Rihanna, Scott combined her expertise for dance and finesse into a performance-inspired exhibit.
Dani Reynolds – Air VaporMax
Midnight marked the official launch of the Air VaporMax. The Biannual art director/creative producer created a futuristic space that celebrated the process and limitless nature of the art of design.
