Earlier this summer, Whitney (the new project of Julien Ehrlich from Unknown Mortal Orchestra & Max Kakacek of Smith Westerns) dropped their wonderfully chill and soothing debut album Light Upon the Lake. They’ve already shared videos for album cuts “No Woman” and “Golden Days” and now they’ve dropped a video for their sweet song “Polly.” The video was made over the course of two months by Tokyo-based award-winning animator and illustrator Sarina Nihei. Nihei directed, animated and hand-painted the entire video which matches the vulnerable, kinda sad yet still upbeat track wonderfully. You can tell that when Ehrlich & Kakacek first started writing this album the were both going through breakups, as Ehrlich explains…
“There’s a lot of true feeling behind these songs. We wanted them to have a part of our personalities in them. We wanted the songs to have soul.”

Light Upon the Lake is out now on Secretly Canadian. Hit up your local record store and grab a vinyl copy, or if you’re lazy you can grab it on iTunes here. You should also go catch Whitney live at the dates below, heads up they’re selling out fast.
