Today Canadian menswear retailer Uncle Otis, officially celebrates their twenty-fifth anniversary as one of Canada’s foremost fashion purveyors. Founded in 1991 by Roger O’Donnell of The Cure, the high-end menswear shop has since grown its team, customer-base, and brands while continuing its pursuit of men’s fine style.
Created in response to the growing need for international streetwear in a country that has often been overlooked as a fashion centre, Uncle Otis first hit the streets of Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood to bring Toronto men upper-end niche brands. With high-quality collections from Norse Projects, Wings+Horns, to Universal Works, Uncle Otis now carries 30 brands rooted in craftsmanship and innovation.
As the fall and winter season quickly descend upon us, Uncle Otis has teamed up with three top-tier international brands to design three exclusive collections that bring the 25th anniversary to life.First up is the Maharishi Pant, a collaboration with one of our favourite menswear brands. The London-based environmentally focused designer, Maharishi has crafted a trouser made with specialized 3xDry fabric. With anti-fit silhouette, elasticized waistband, high-end Swiss-made RiRi zipper, black nylon leg hem, and 25th- anniversary embroidery, the trousers are specifically designed for everyday fall and winter wear (without tear) in the city. The next collaboration comes from the Portland-based, hand-crafted leather goods maker Tanner Goods. The Tanner Goods capsule in the utilitarian-collection includes a belt, lanyard, wallet, and valet tray. For the first time ever, Tanner Goods has made this collection with exclusive charcoal leather fabric and matte black hardware lightly embossed with Uncle Otis’ custom stamp. It’s sexy af!
Lastly, we get the Universal Works Jacket. David Keyte, Universal Works co-founder, and designer, has worked alongside Uncle Otis to craft two exclusive jackets with custom charcoal wool exterior and quilted olive nylon liner and reversed. Designed with a varsity neckline, the jacket is the perfect fall wear weight or layering piece in the winter.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to be celebrating twenty-five years of bringing Canadian and international clientele hand-picked clothing and exclusive collections,” said Donnell Enns, co-owner of Uncle Otis. “While we’ve watched the fashion landscape and industry evolve, we’ve always maintained our dedication to consistently sourcing and selling only high-quality contemporary men’s fashion pieces.”
