J. Crew unveiled their latest collection for the spring summer 2016 season yesterday at New York Fashion Week. The show featured both men’s and women’s collections, each with their own inspirations and designs. For women this season Jenna Lyons was inspired by mood instead of place, and thus the collection is a celebration of everything there is to love about the spring and summer seasons. The lookbook pairs bright sorbets, pinks, and gingham’s with intense greens, pure blacks and whites, making the collection ultimately playful yet casual in a feminine way.
On the men’s side the collection focused more on traditional styles, with inspiration drawn from Edward Weston’s black and white photographs of his sons in Point Lobos California. The colour palette of the collection centred on light, fresh colours including optic white, parchment, and vanilla paired with indigo and hunter green. Key pieces included simplified boat neck sweaters, baggy khakis and lightweight jackets.
